Supporters of a sustainable world

The world is changing and without sustainable development the world will face very serious problems in the near future. We at VikingGenetics have always considered the sustainability of dairy farming an important factor in our breeding programmes.

The global population has quadrupled in the past 100 years. There are almost 8 billion people in the world today and estimates suggest that the population will reach 9.7 billion by 2050. This is creating unprecedented issues for the global economy to tackle. Food demand is expected to increase by anything from 59% to 98% by 2050. This will put new demands on farming and food production in ways we have never seen before.

We can't fix all the issues caused by population growth with sustainable cattle breeding, but we are addressing the issues we can make a difference in. We have always known the importance of health and longevity of dairy cows. Healthy animals live longer and provide sustainable business opportunities for dairy farmers.

In the Nordic countries we have the lowest use of antibiotics in the dairy industry, compared to the rest of the world. This is thanks to the responsibility we have taken in breeding. We care about natural, healthy animals, and feel a responsibility for sustainable dairy production where people, the environment and animals are in focus. We have also managed to increase the production capabilities of cows at the same time, making our cows the most profitable dairy cows in the long run.
